The tertiary education sector is sitting on a time bomb. The Federal Government is yet to honour its agreement with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
I don’t think the Federal Government wants ASUU to go on another strike but if this situation extends beyond the October 31 deadline, then ASUU will very likely go on strike again.
President of the association, Professor Biodun Ogunyemi had, in announcing the “conditional suspension” of the previous strike, said the action was taken after the union gave the Federal Government a deadline of the end of October to fulfill its promises.
We don’t want another strike, however short it may be. The universities and their students are yet to recover from the last one.
Exams that should have long been concluded are only being rounded off now. The holiday that is supposed to follow has been shortened. The academic calendar has been disrupted. We can’t afford to have further disruption of our academic calendar.
No one knows how many Nigerian students were involved in accidents and how many died on our bad roads when traveling to and from school at the commencement and cancellation of the last ASUU’s strike. We can’t afford to risk the lives of these students again.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has asked a Federal High Court in Abuja to compel the former National Publicity Secretary to the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr Olisa Metuh, to pay N1bn to cover his travel expenses to appear as a defence witness in Metuh’s trial.
At the resumed trial of Mr Metuh on Tuesday, Jonathan’s counsel, Mr Mike Ozekhome, asked the court to either set aside the subpoena for his appearance or compel to pay the amount.
Ozekhome told the court that the demand for the payment is in line with the provisions of Section 241 subsection 2 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015 and is meant to cover travel expenses for himself and his security personnel from his hometown in Otuoke, Bayelsa State to Abuja.
The amount is will also cover logistics and provision of tight security to cover whatever time the former President will spend appearing before the court.
Mr Ozekhome told the court that the application is supported by eight grounds and that the court ought to hear the application.
The grounds include that the evidence Mr Metuh is seeking from Jonathan would amount to an invasion of his privacy and family life as provided for in Section 37 of the Constitution.
Another ground is that the evidence will expose the former President to a criminal charge, penalty or forfeiture, arguing also that the grounds for the subpoena was frivolous.
The former PDP National Publicity Secretary along with his company, Destra Investments Limited, is being tried for allegedly receiving N400m fraudulently from the office of the NSA under Colonel Sambo Dasuki (retd) and on charges involving cash transaction involving $2m.

Gucci lord, Hushpuppi is not having a good amount of ‘hush’ lately. The big boy has had a lot of backlashing from various people for days now.
It appears the fight between Hushpuppi, his alleged baby mama and his once close friend Mompha has taken a new turn.
After Mompha revealed Hushpuppi had a 4-year-old son whom he abandoned, the woman who bore that child, a lady who goes by the name @Shobabybeauty on Instagram, went ahead to reveal details about her relationship with Hushpuppi.
She said she recently had a conversation with Hushpuppi were he labeled her a nobody and she is hell bent on making him regret his statement. She added that her current husband is not stopping Hushpuppi from having a relationship with his son but it sickens her to see him spending so much on designer items.
She said;
Hushpuppi you called me a nobody yesterday on the phone for speaking the truth. You will regret that statement. As for @mompha you didnt need to send our private conversation and involve us in your beef. I saw you as his friend, who i thought you could talk sense to him to be a Dad to his son.
If I wanted social media to know @hushpuppi does not provide for his son, I would have put it up years ago. You could have at least hidden my snap ID and not have put our son picture up. To all the single mothers with a deadbeat dad there is light at the end of the tunnel.
Just as God blessed me with a wonderful husband he can do the same for you.
Now, Hushpuppi has debunked all claims of him not providing for his son, has he shared recepits and proofs that he has always been sending money for upkeep and been in close contact with his son.

The menace of robbery during heavy traffic hours in Lagos is becoming worrisome and scary, to say the least. Less than a month after a couple and actress Moyo Lawal were attack by traffic robbers, this lady, Enitan Marquis, has suffered same fate, even worse with the way they stabbed her.
See photos and read how she narrated her experience…
“I wasn’t going to post anything about the incident but I saw that something similar happened to another lady recently and awareness needs to be raised – so people can be even more vigilant, and solutions can be sought.
I was driving from VI to Surulere at about 8.30pm on Monday 16th October. I had just driven past Apongbon when I got into heavy traffic.
I noticed two men approach the drivers side of the car in front of mine, but the driver was able to swerve away from them. I sensed something was wrong, so I tried to do the same, but was unable to cross to the other lane due to the traffic.

The two men walked past my car, I then looked in my rearview mirror and saw one of them look back at my car, and then he turned around and walked back towards me.
Everything happened really fast – he approached my window, smashed the window and started stabbing my arm, saying “give me your phone, give me your bag”. I was in shock, terrified and stuck in traffic. I couldn’t drive anywhere. I gave him my phone, he continued stabbing my arm. I gave him my bag, and he still continued stabbing my arm.
At some point I was able to drive off, or he ran away (I can’t remember which happened first). I was disorientated, scared and was driving quite erratically, hitting other cars trying to get someone’s attention. I was screaming for help as my arm was bleeding out. I kept screaming to the other drivers “Help me! I’ve been stabbed”, they just looked, no one helped.

Eventually I rammed into a car in front of me, the man came out of his car, saw the state I was in and proceeded to help me. I can only describe him as being God sent. Out of everybody who was in that traffic only one man took it upon himself to help… I was stabbed 9 times in my arm – for a phone and handbag.
We always hear that the ’ember months are dangerous, but Lagos State, Lagos Police, WHAT IS BEING DONE to prevent these incidents? WHAT IS BEING DONE to reduce the ridiculous traffic that are breeding grounds for these incidents? And people of Lagos, myself included, WHAT ARE WE DOING to be better?

Paris Saint-Germain striker, Kylian Mbappe says he has a long way to go to challenging the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Neymar for the Ballon d’Or.
The 18-year-old admits that he has a lot of work to do before he can be considered at the pinnacle of the sport.
“I still have a lot of steps to go for the Ballon d’Or, I’m learning,” he told TF1’s ‘Telefoot’.
Mbappe, however, believes that team mate, Neymar will claim the prize before he is at that standard.
“Ney has this technical quality that allows you to interact with him. He took me under his wing and if I can help him to win the Ballon d’Or, I’ll do it, but the important thing is the team,” he said.
PSG have made a terrific start to the season, surging to the top of Ligue 1 while also taking control of their Champions League group, in which they tackle Anderlecht on Tuesday.

One of Nigeria’s most eagerly anticipated trials was finally due to reconvene on Tuesday. The only problem was that the main defendant was nowhere to be seen.
Nnamdi Kanu—a separatist leader calling for an independent state of Biafra in southeast Nigeria—was due to appear at the high court in Nigeria’s capital Abuja to face charges of treasonable felony.
But Kanu, who heads the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has not been seen in public since a purported raid by Nigerian security forces on his home in mid-September. And those close to him fear the worst.
Kanu’s wife, Uchechi Okwu-Kanu, wrote to sources earlier in October to say she was sure that her husband had been killed and that the Nigerian government was covering up his death.
The separatist leader’s lawyer, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, said on Tuesday that he did not know whether his client was dead or alive and had not seen him since the alleged raid on Kanu’s home in Umuahia, southeast Nigeria, the BBC reported.
A wall at the family home of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader Nnamdi Kanu features a painted flag of the former Republic of Biafra and holes purportedly caused by bullets, in the city of Umuahia, southeastern Nigeria, on September 27.
The Nigerian military denied that the raid—which Kanu’s supporters say happened on September 14 and resulted in some 20 IPOB members being shot dead—ever took place and have said that Kanu is not in their custody.
The trial has been adjourned until November 20, with the court ordering Kanu’s team to produce him on that date. But the IPOB leader’s continued absence is threatening to escalate tensions in southeast Nigeria, where Kanu’s biggest support base resides.
